Thanks Managed to do that without any errors.
Still getting a failed setting permissions error in my log though. Looks like it had enough permissions to delete the old folders but not set permissions?!

Code: Select all

yes, that function is not supported on Synology, but this will only print an error without breaking anything...

Hi All,

I followed these steps and all the commands works (logged in as root on my DS412).

When I restart, I can't get any of the services to run. I just get a failed to start error. I re did all the steps and double checked that I edited the correct files and all seems correct but the error persists.

Any idea if something has changed for this guide? I'm running the latest DSM5.

Any help would be fantastic.

I got CP to work, by downloading the SPK from here http://synology.w01.eu/ and reinstalling it. it good to just make a backup of the @appstore couchpotato folder using Midnight commander. to restore some of the settings later.

why i used this link for downloading CP was because it got removed from the Commuinty Repos. and maybe coming back at a later time. the one called CP 3.1.1 i didnt get to work.

what i think the problem is the app wont start is ther permission of the files after editing. i used MC to edit the settings file after reinstall and than it couldnt start again. so i carefully checked the old permission and got it working. this spk works with renaming without doing shell editing

hope you getting this to work.

Hi,

I'm still following this procedure and it works well for me, but is there not a more elegant way to do it that doesn't require editing the start-stop-status or changing user permissions every time an app is updated through the package center?

Is everyone still following these steps or is there another way?

Thanks,

Alex

Hello guys,

I've followed these stepps 1by1 and all seems to work for CouchPotato. What I realized after getting it all to work was that I cant cd into my music folder anymore via putty as root...

What could have happend during this?

generally "root" should be able to access everything... I'm not sure what happened here..

In0cenT - that's quite strange! I'm not sure why that would be. What kind of error do you get?

Clinton - so do you re-edit the start-stop-status and change user permissions each time an app is updated through the package center?

Thanks

I don't do anything in this regard as I don't have synology.
this thread started from some troubleshooting that another user did and we put this solution together...
My understanding is this will likely require the edit to be done after each update. but since CouchPotato itself is self updating, I don't know how frequently the packae will be updated...

OK wow, sorry, I assumed you did. Your solution works very well! Just surprised that the hacking around is necessary. I'm not much of a Linux expert but would have thought if all the differnet users are members of the same group and the group had the right permissions then things should be ok.

Yes, I would have thought the same... But I obviously can't test on the device...

Hi,

I carried out the steps in the OP, but now I can't get CouchPotato to start - I'm actually fairly good with Linux, and I can't see anything that I've done wrong - sickbeard/SAB etc all start and run just fine, but CouchPotato is resolutely refusing to start. I can't see anything wrong with the script...

Anyone got any ideas to help me troubleshoot it a bit?

Thanks,

Chris.

Are there any errors returned to your ssh terminal? does anything get entered into the couchpotato log?

I also carried out these steps, but can't get any CouchPotato to start - in fact, I can't start any of the Community packages - I get the same error each time: "Failed to run package service".

I've tried to back out all of these changes, but with no success. I've uninstalled and reinstalled CouchPotato, sabnzbd - but none will start now.

Are there additional permissions that I need to change?

If no Apps will run, that suggests you made a change to a common file, and possibly corrupted it.
What do you get in ssh terminal when you try to start these services? Surely it must give you more than the error you posted above?

How do I start a service (like Transmission, for example) from the command line?
